Environmental protection as fundamental step to guarantee security of the food products and for human health. To protect the environment means also guarantee wellness and a high quality level of life for us and for the next generation.
Therefore environmental protection is for Tornisìa a real commitment, formed of actions aimed at following the fundamentals principles of environmental management programme:
− Our products are both from Organic and semi-organic cultivation, the ones are produced according to certain production standards, meaning they are grown without the use of conventional pesticides and artificial fertilizers, and that they were processed without ionizing radiation or food additives.
In the second ones there’s a mean reduction in use of pesticides and artificial fertilizer. Processing are made only if strictly necessary and only in the right period when parasiti are most vulnerable. Thanks to semi organic growing is possible to reduce frequency of treatment as much as 40% than a conventional defense. Consequently, it lowers the incidence of damage for the environment and for the consumer’s health .
− Every step of the production chain aimed to reduce and recycle effluents. Branches from pruning and olive
residues used as organic fertilizer, a mean reduction of package and an offer of eco-compatible products
− A lower lever of CO2 emission thanks to the attention in the delivery policy. The target is to optimize all the steps of the supply chain
− We promote ongoing staff training with regard to correct refuse management and pollution prevention.
And in order to provide further strength and continuity, we are currently committed – firstly on the whole of the food enterprises - to an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) management programme. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) represents a communication tool which provides information on the environmental performance of a product through application of the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) methodology.
EPD is an ecological type III label based on the standard ISO TR 14025 that informs the consumer about the impacts that the product generates on the environment and it is a unique certification scheme aimed to help European consumers to identify greener, more environmentally friendly, products and services.
